One of the ways to get a sense of how a screenplay works is to read them, and while WGA members get physical copies of scripts every year (for our nominations and awards) they don’t always coincide with what the Academy is pushing. And by the time the Oscar nominations are announced, no more physical scripts are being sent to WGA members. And I make it a habit to read the Oscar-nominated scripts each year to see how these writers have done and what stylistic advances they might have employed.
