This week Chris was down in Savannah, GA as a director shadow on an upcoming Hulu show THE ACT.

1) Restaurant I’m LovingMs. Wilkes Kitchen. Interior designer extraordinaire Mario Perry suggested this restaurant, and it does not disappoint! Southern food the way it is supposed to be done!

2) Book I’m ReadingINFLUENCE: The Psychology of Persuasion by Robert B. Cialdini. This is a stalwart marketing text delves into fascinating theories and practices concerning persuasion. Perhaps a must-read for anyone in the “sales business” (considering every business in the sales business).

3) Film I’m Watching: Los Angeles Plays Itself. Thom Andersen’s curious and intriguing documentary “explores the tangled relationship between the movies and their infamous hometown as seen entirely though the films themselves”. Everyone loves docs these days, but this is a documentary for cinema lovers and Los Angeles transplants. The sheer number of films pulled for clips is astonishing and will put a smile on your face. What I love about this film is how it showcases LA’s distinctive neighborhoods to its architectural homes. To a certain degree, Hollywood has excessively romanticized Los Angeles in movies and TV and used LA to portray cities and town all around the globe. In Andersens’s dazzling film, he escorts viewers on a whirlwind tour through the City of the Angels — real and cinematic history — investigating the countless stories and legends that define Los Angeles to the rest of the world, and meticulously, judiciously revealing the “real city” that lives beneath.

4) Quote I’m Pondering: The old saying, “we borrowed the Earth from our children” is wrong; we stole it from them. We depend on the environment and we’ve destroyed it — Jane Goodall.
